I recently stayed at McMenamins Kennedy School, and it was quite the experience. The unique decor and nostalgic touches made my room interesting, especially with a plaque explaining the life of a former teacher. However, I did struggle with the dim lighting and noise from the corridors, which affected my comfort somewhat. Overall, it's charming and quirky but may not be for everyone. 🌼✨

Rooms
6.0
My room had an artsy headboard and historical features, but it was poorly lit and noisy. I found it a bit cramped too.
Service
6.0
Check-in was somewhat harried, but the staff were generally understanding. I did feel a lack of assistance with my bags, and that stood out.
Location
6.0
While the hotel is in a quieter neighborhood, it's quite distant from downtown Portland, which is a downside.
Dining
7.0
The dining experience in the former cafeteria was decent, but not quite strong enough to warrant a detour just for the food.
Facilities

The soaking pool was a highlight, and I appreciated the quirky atmosphere, though some common areas could use better upkeep.

I had a wonderfully unique stay at McMenamins Kennedy School, enjoying the eclectic atmosphere and various dining options. The soaking pool was certainly a highlight, though the chilliness of the hotel’s common areas left me feeling a bit uncomfortable. Overall, it was a fun and vibrant experience that I would recommend for warmer visits.

Rooms

My room was clean and stylish, with cool decor, but it felt a bit small and could use a couple more pillows for added comfort.
Service

The staff were friendly and accommodating, seamlessly handling my early check-in request and delivering breakfast to my room without any delays.
Location

The hotel's location was fantastic, allowing me to walk to nearby neighborhoods while still feeling like a hip resort. It was easily accessible to attractions and had ample parking.
Dining
8.0
Dining options were diverse with several bars and the Boiler Room, which offered a unique atmosphere and decent food, although a little more variety would be nice.
Facilities

The soaking pool and gymnasium provided excellent facilities for relaxation and entertainment, though the chilly atmosphere in other areas detracted from the experience.

5.2/10

My stay at McMenamins Kennedy School was a mixed experience. I loved the unique atmosphere with quirky art and the relaxing soaking pool (such a highlight!), but the room I was initially given was too small and dark for comfort. I appreciated the historical features and the overall charm of the hotel, but the lack of helpful staff and noisy surroundings dampened the experience.

Rooms
5.0
The first room I received was incredibly tiny, barely fitting my luggage, and had a view of the parking lot. However, I did enjoy some unique touches in the decor.
Service
5.0
I found the staff to be somewhat unhelpful, particularly at check-in, which made the arrival feel impersonal.
Location
6.0
While it’s outside downtown Portland, it felt a bit isolated, which may not suit everyone, but I did enjoy the quirky vibe of the surrounding area.
Dining
7.0
The on-site restaurant was convenient and offered decent meals, though I wouldn’t say they were extraordinary. I appreciate that they had a variety of dining options to enjoy, like the boiler room bar.

The soaking pool was a fantastic feature and added much to the experience. I loved the eclectic ambiance of the common areas with interesting artwork and décor.

The soaking pool was a highlight, though I found some common areas could be a bit chilly. Overall, it's a unique experience with a fun, nostalgic atmosphere, ideal for a relaxed getaway.

Rooms

My room had an artsy headboard and was filled with historical character, but it could have used better lighting. The pull-down blackboards and period furnishings added a nostalgic touch.
Service
7.0
Check-in was a bit chaotic, possibly due to the busy period, but overall, the staff was understanding and accommodating.
Location
8.0
The hotel is conveniently located away from downtown but easily accessible by car. The surrounding neighborhood had lovely streets perfect for walks, especially with the spring blossoms.
Dining
7.0
I enjoyed meals at the Boiler Room bar and the Courtyard Restaurant. The décor was unique, but the menu felt repetitive compared to other McMenamins locations.
Facilities
8.0
The soaking pool was a nice perk, albeit crowded on a chilly weekend. I liked the themed bars, which added to the overall experience, though some areas could have been warmer.

My stay at McMenamins Kennedy School was a mixed experience. While the quirky atmosphere and unique decor were charming, I found certain aspects lacking, particularly in accessibility and comfort. The service was friendly and attentive, but some amenities could use improvements.

Rooms
6.0
I had a clean and nice room, but it was quite far from the lobby, making access difficult with my crutches. Although the decor was fun, I found the overall layout a bit confusing.
Service
7.0
The staff were polite and helpful, doing their best to accommodate my requests, but they could benefit from more training to enhance the overall service experience.
Location
7.0
The location felt like a hip resort but was outside downtown Portland, which made it manageable with Uber for getting around to local attractions.
Dining
6.0
I enjoyed breakfast in the courtyard, and though the dinner experience I had was disappointing, I appreciated the variety of options available on-site.
Facilities
6.0
The soaking pool and unique movie theater were highlights, though I found the pool a bit chaotic during my visit. More attention to the maintenance of the facilities would greatly enhance the experience.
